Turf managers work in the weather. From deciding what to wear to determining job assignments, weather conditions influence nearly every aspect of daily operations. Accurate weather data is also essential for safely timing chemical applications and managing play or golf cart traffic. Within GreenKeeper App, weather drives core agronomic models—including Growing Degree Day (GDD) models for PGRs and wetting agents, evapotranspiration (ET) predictions, and estimates of changes in soil organic matter.
GreenKeeper App accesses global weather models to estimate current environmental conditions at each facility’s location. While these forecasts are generally excellent, on-site weather stations remain the gold standard for precision. That’s where GreenKeeper RECON comes in—our suite of autonomous sensors is designed to collect agronomically critical data right from your turf.
RECON hardware includes the Turf Vision System with the aX | rX datalogger and turf canopy sensor, our wX weather stations, and satellite Rain Buckets to monitor spatial variability in precipitation across your course.
Enhanced Weather Tile on GreenKeeper
We’re excited to announce a new version of the Weather tile on the GreenKeeper App homepage. This updated tile now displays current weather conditions, a 10-day forecast, seven days of historical weather data, and expanded hourly data. Best of all, it integrates seamlessly with our RECON wX Station. With the new Weather Source Selector, users can easily toggle between model-estimated weather and real-time data from our weather stations.

RECON wX Weather Station Now Available
The RECON wX weather station shares its data with GreenKeeper every 15 minutes via a built-in cellular connection. Powered by a solar panel, the wX station is designed for flexible placement and long-term reliability with minimal maintenance.
Measured Weather Parameters:
-
Temperature
-
Relative Humidity
-
Dew Point
-
Air Pressure
-
Solar Radiation
-
Wind Speed
-
Wind Direction
-
Precipitation
Precipitation data is transmitted in real time, starting the moment rainfall begins. Additionally, the wX station connects wirelessly to our satellite Rain Buckets—no extra cellular subscription required. The Rain Buckets send data to the wX station, which then relays it to GreenKeeper.

Why Solar Radiation Matters
The inclusion of a solar radiation sensor enables GreenKeeper to calculate site-specific ET, improving the accuracy of soil moisture predictions within the Water Resource Planner. ET-based irrigation is the most efficient way to manage water use—but it’s even more powerful when paired with ET forecasts. By comparing calculated ET to model-based forecasts, GreenKeeper Insight can refine and improve those predictions. These forecasts can then be incorporated into irrigation controllers, allowing for precise, data-driven irrigation scheduling.

Pricing & Subscription
The RECON wX weather station is priced at $4,000, which includes the first year of data service (covering all cellular access fees). After the first year, the annual Data Subscription is $350 and is renewed along with your GreenKeeper Essential or Pro subscription.
GreenKeeper Pro Vision users—who also benefit from our CIS software—receive one free Data Subscription for their first wX station.
